WILBUR-ELLIS’ ERIC JOHANSEN ELECTED TO AMERICAN FEED INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION’S QUALITY COMMITTEE

VANCOUVER, Wash. – June 1, 2015 –Eric Johansen, quality manager for Wilbur-Ellis Company’s Feed Division, has been elected to the American Feed Industry Association’s (AFIA) Quality Committee. AFIA’s Quality Committee is focused on promoting quality and food safety throughout the animal feed industry – from monitoring industry needs, both internationally and domestically, to providing recommendations for members to improve their quality and food safety programs.

“We’re confident that Eric’s decades of experience, including his important work at Wilbur-Ellis, will help keep AFIA headed in the right direction in regards to quality and animal food safety recommendations for the Safe Feed/Safe Food program, as well as the education and training needs for our members,” said Henry Turlington, Ph.D., director, quality & manufacturing regulatory affairs for AFIA. “We are excited to have Eric as a part of the AFIA Quality Committee and look forward to his contribution.”

The AFIA Quality Committee is comprised of fifteen members with each serving a three-year term. As an elected member of the Quality Committee, Johansen will work with other members to promote the Safe Feed/Safe Food program, help advise AFIA on Codex Alimentarius (FAO) International Code of Good Animal Feeding Practices, and provide direction for the educational and training needs for the AFIA members in regards to quality and food safety.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with my peers in the Feed industry to further advance feed safety and quality initiatives,” said Johansen. “We’ve already begun developing recommendations on training programs for the industry that coincide with the final animal food rule for the Food Safety Modernization Act set to be released in August of this year.”

Johansen has held leadership positions in food safety and quality for more than 30 years, with expertise in HACCP, food safety, quality systems, food science and food safety automation project leadership. Johansen also holds several professional certifications from the American Society for Quality.

Wilbur-Ellis’ Feed Division is committed to maintaining the best supply chain protocols in the feed and pet food ingredient industries, and has invested record resources in the last few years doing so.
